steve_b_wales
This is a strange one. My Satnav is charged via a USB lead. I have two charging points in my vehicle. If I plug my mobile into them, via a USB adaptor cigar type plug, it charges. But if I try and charge my Satnav, it doesn't. However, if I plug the Satnav into my computer, it charges straight away, proving that the lead works okay. I don't know what to do, and I will be needing the Satnav early March. walshie
Logically it has to be the USB adaptor then?
Seadog1408
Sounds like the voltage draw for the sat nav is too high for your adaptor, you need to get one that will cope with the draw. Mike
Davyo
Permanent hard wire is best as no viable cables.Just used an add on fuse. Sounds like the voltage draw for the sat nav is too high for your adaptor, you need to get one that will cope with the draw. Mike This If you only want the plug and play option,it's the same for most tablets also.Stay away from cheap car adapters from eBay, I used (before I hard wired)an adapter over 2amp to run a tablet as Nav in the car.I used Belkin adapter had a1.5amp and 3amp slot would charge the phone in the 1.5 amp port and run the Satnav (tablet ) in the 3amp Edited February 12, 2017 by Davyo
HDAV
PC USB ports are likely standard USB 500mA satnav may not like high current adapters 2A+ many have 2 outlets 500mA and larger 1A or 2A try a 500mA port
steve_b_wales
UPDATE: I purchased a Garmin USB charger, which is designed for Sat Nav's and other devices, from Argos, and it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for all the help and advice.
Wymondley
If it's a Garmin they're wired to only work with genuine Garmin chargers. Bit late as you've sorted it. Edited February 13, 2017 by Wymondley
steve_b_wales
If it's a Garmin they're wired to only work with genuine Garmin chargers. Bit late as you've sorted it. It's a Garmin charger and my SatNav is a Tomtom. The charger was advertised as suitable for charging 'most' SatNavs and mobile phones etc. So far, it's working well.
