fieldwanderer
Sounds obvious in a way, but I got thinking that I can buy an unchambered barrel blank without the need for an fac so could I buy a bolt and receiver without (since it's not going to be any use without a chambered barrel)? Just curious really, wondering if I could keep an eye open for an action ready for my next project without having to apply for anything just yet
TIGHTCHOKE
I seriously doubt it!

welshwarrior
No you can't buy an action or bolt Action need a vacant FAC slot Bolt is a notifiable part as well Not sure who'd sell you a rifle blank without an seeing FAC either. fieldwanderer
Thanks. While we're on the subject though, is this something that can be done? I.e. apply to have a complete action but calibre unknown and apply for that at a later date to have a barrel fitted? Or simply a non-starter over here? welshwarrior
Ask your FEO each areas different but I've a client who sold is sauer barrel to change calibre he had an action only with authority to buy a 308 barrel. So yes but not an everyday firearms request so could be met both ways as well know what "they're" like
Alycidon
10 years or so ago I bought 2 unchambered blanks from the US with no problems at all, but export licences etc and tightening up generally probably means that this is no longer possible, even then some US barrel manufacturers would not supply me. Talk to your shooting organisiation and your FEO first but as its unchambered I cant in theory see a problem. All it is is a bit of steel with a hole up it. Dougy
What you can do is buy the action and have it sent to the gunsmith that you choose to do the work. But choose wisley if you do. Edited February 18, 2017 by Dougy
Walker570
You can apply for just an action. Just done it. OK mine is for a single shot T/C Encore but basically the same. You would have to apply for a variation to have an action only with no calibre designation.
