JBS
Im looking to order a new chest freezer for the shed and haven't had one for a while, how many pigeons can i expect to fit in it per litre? i was thinking about one per litre? motty
Hmm. Not sure, but I think 1 per litre might be pushing it. I currently have 3 freezers and 2 fridges for my pigeons. This certainly helps, as freezing more than about 50 at a time in any one is about as many as I can manage.

The thing is i only want to be able to freeze less than fifty anyway, more than that are worth the trip to the game dealers, i was thinking of a 150 litre so hopefully 120 or so would be possible? maybe i should just go for a 200 litre

JBS
I think if you have the room, bigger is better. Space isn't an issue, how much i spend on the freezer is! I've had second hand eBay freezers before and from past experience pigeon soup is no fun when they pack up without you realising, god only knows what they thought had happened when or if it was opened by anyone working at the tip! aga man
The smallest freezer i have is an old 175 litre, it will hold 90 pigeons in the feather. You could maybe squeeze a few more in if you remove heads and feet etc but that hopefully gives you an idea.
old'un
A 200-250 litre will hold 150+ birds, one thing I do in the field when bagging up is pull the tail feather out, it's surprising just how many more you can get in the freezer with them removed. masmiffy
We use 2 old glass topped 'iceland' freezers. Just fill them up with pigeons and rabbits then take the lot to the game dealer in one hit. They dont want the rabbits gutted so thats a bonus!
