O Ring in a semi

So, the semi I have has been jamming recently; the first round will fire, eject and the second round will make its way out of the mag, but will jam up against the barrel.

It's like the bolt is closing just a fraction of second too quickly.

Breaking down the gun, the o-ring had split and was now forming part of the spring.

I've superglued it back together (I'm guessing this won't work) but where does the ring even go? I'm assuming that it fits between the part that is connected to the slide (the bit that moves back down the barrel, pushing the slide which the bolt is connected to) and the other thing that I'm guessing that gets shot back down the mag when the gas comes in. Sorry - I have no idea what these parts are called.

The gun is an EGE Silah - cheapo Turkish semi.

Any help?

I don't know that gun, but there's normally an O ring in front of the gas piston. So you'd fit it before the barrel went back on.

If you have a vernier and can use it, measure it and get some made of Viton off ebay for pence. Just search Viton O rings, Simply Bearings have an ebay shop and give good service.

Or go into a local bearing supplier with the old one and ask them to match it.

Thanks - so on the barrel there is the housing that has the vents and it slides over the magazine.

I don't have a vernier but can get access to one pretty easily - thanks for the tip. I'm assuming there is nothing special about these o rings?

I'm assuming the piston is the silver jobby that sits inside of this? That is where I've put the 'repaired' o-ring. Out of interest - does the piston get pushed back along the mag and this is what forces the bolt back? Or does this direct the gas back down over the mag?

Take the old O ring into your nearest Plumbers Merchants, they usually have a box full of assorted O rings under the counter. They are used on most modern taps and fittings nowadays. I used to buy 12 at a time for my Remmie.

Thanks - will try that.

For what it's worth when I was running a Remington and a Hatsan the rings looked similar but neither worked 100% in the other. I found that the plumbers o rings seemed to be to soft. Measuring with a vernier scale would be a good start point but due to the budget limitations when manufacturing in Turkey, it may be possible that they used an existing Hatsan part. Just a thought
