Fredwalton
So just been told by the farmer that they are harvesting a field I have been watching now (Friday evening) we are having a BBQ tomorrow so thought about shooting the field on Sunday but he's just they might be muck spreading on Sunday. My question is will this put the birds if muck has been spread? Edited July 14, 2017 by Fredwalton
Old Boggy
So just been told by the farmer that they are harvesting a field I have been watching now (Friday evening) we are having a BBQ tomorrow so thought about shooting the field on Sunday but he's just they might be muck spreading on Sunday. My question is will this put the birds if muck has been spread? I was out on Tuesday on a rape stubble where they were muck spreading a day after the combine and it seemed to help keep the birds on the move and ended up with 23 pigeons which was a good afternoon for me. However, I knew the driver and he agreed not to actually spread where I was set up. Hope this helps. OB
motty
Spreading muck shouldn't put pigeons off.
Fredwalton
Just been told they will then cultivate the field so that will put them off?
ditchman
Just been told they will then cultivate the field so that will put them off? if anything it might bring them in.............watched my mate cultivate the stubble this week...brought more birds in than as the stubble... That's good to know might go on Monday then once they have finished. I shot the field next to this one last year after it was cultivated (was a pea field) and actually had a fairly good day. Can you drive across a cultivated field?

As Ditchy says, after the field is disced often the pigeons seem keener to search for the seed. Perhaps this is just coincidence that they have built up in numbers. aga man
Good advice given above, I have shot pigeons on both stubbles cultivated or spread with muck. Best advice I could give is don't take a dog on a freshly mucked stubble. The missus will not be pleased if the dog gets into the house on your return!
