pigeon controller
Following our hundred pigeons on clover at the weekend I had to drive up to Mid Wales yesterday and on the journey I saw birds on grass fields, not under trees but mid field in small groups of approx twenty. At the stables this morning I counted fifty plus on the clover over the paddocks. So it would appear that they are finding food that way. I understand that clover is not good for horses due to it warming them up and may be the pigeons have found this to be beneficial to there diet?? JDog
Thinking outside the box again I see. A good observation. In these parts there is not very much grass and not much of that grass has clover in it. What we do have are lots of fields of barley and wheat stubble on which the very large flocks are feeding. pigeon controller
I may not smile in my photographs but I do keep my eyes open. As you say JDog you have a large amount of stubbles which will make the food table very large and difficult to decoy also you will have resting migrating birds which will move on when disturbed. Cranfield
We have a few small groups on clover, but they seem to prefer it in the Spring, when its often more popular than the drillings. I recall Archie Coates shot some of his biggest bags over clover.
Whitebridges
Sugar beet is being lifted here. Got a field with some chippings and tops on it. I hope a frost get's to it.
aga man
Don't usually see pigeons on clover till Easter rounds these parts. Farmers here would be happy to see them on clover as they often say they are leaving the rape etc alone whilst feeding on it. Pigeons here seem to be on the last of the berries and the huge amount of grain being fed to pheasants!. Just a few now starting to look at the Rape.
