Fair enough; it’s not like it’s going to happen anyhow.

Indeed, we do interesting, but ultimately pointless debates on PW very well.

Toxo, would you be content for one of your close family members to be the "collateral damage" from your desired policy?

If through some chance they were wrongly convicted and sentenced to death, are you going to be uncomplaining and acknowledge that it is just an unfortunate by product of the system that an innocent, one of your family, is killed by the state?

Probably not, certainly not with our present government and society.

But what if the situation changed, what if crime got so bad, we ended up with martial law, a police state ?
If there is no deterrent , what would keep crime in check, whats to stop anarchy descending ?
If you think human nature would prevent such a thing, or it seems a far fetched idea, look at the riots weve had in the last decade, where the police struggled to contain them.
Our society is a lot more fragile than we think, the only thing we have is the law, and the majority wanting to be law abiding.
But if the law appears to be ineffective, we lose respect for it.

Convicted of a 'string' of burglaries , some aggravated, he was already on a suspended sentence for theft.
Given 6 years, will be out in 3 or less, the judge said the people of Nottingham need a holiday from your activities, at least hes being optimistic that he wont come straight back out and re offend

They say if you want something to change, dont keep doing the same things and expect a different outcome, that is the first step to insanity.
