One Shot
A short while ago, as part of my job as a funeral director, I attended a crematorium liason meeting and met several important people including the ownwer of 2 crematoriums. One of the two crematoriums is local to where I live ( I think you can see the road I'm treading here) Anyway, a week or so after the meeting, I was Directing a funeral at the said local crem, when the superintendant comes over and starts talking to me about the crem wildlife in general - whereupon I (more in hope) mention the fact that I have noticed an increase in the tree rat populations. EEK!! Now he knows I am seriously into airgunning and upon hearing what I said then asks if I would be willing to put in an appearance now and then, whenever I want to, sort of thing. Now I would need commiting if I say no to that, eh? So there am I the very next day, presenting to the superintendant my intro letter and leaflet about me, as well as my permission notice. Now, less than a week later, I find out that I have been sucessful and have landed permission to shoot in the crem grounds - the bonus of which is that the 'shoot' doesn't just include the crem itself, but also the surrounding three rather large fields (which is populated by HUNDEREDS of rabbitses)! He also told me that the total ground area amounts to around 160 acres or so - it just goes to show that a chance encounter, plus an off the cuff remark can end up getting you sorted one way or another! To those looking for land to shoot on, I say this: don't give up, keep chipping away and you will get there in the end. As the old saying goes "slowly, slowly . . .catchee monkey" Regards, Terry

One Shot
Nice one. Sounds like a great excuse for your first FAC. Nice little semi auto with silencer. Funny you should say that - i was thinking the same thing! lol I was thinking of when i eventually apply, and going for something like a CZ 22lr rimmy + a mod - what do you think? I want something that is capable of being a multi tasker, but in particular say, capable of slotting a fox out to maybe 100 yards? (the reason i am thinking this way is because my FEO feels that 9 years in the TA firing the L1A1 FN/FAL 7.62 SLR isn't enough centre fire experience to get anything bigger!!!) lmao I was told that my TA range days came down to the fact that i was shooting centre fire rifle, but that was in a controlled environment - but my argument is that surely when you are on your shoot and are firing whatever caliber of rifle, surely that is in a controlled environment as well!? Plus add to that the fact that a shotgun is a centre fire as well, is it not? Cheers, Terry

One Shot
Shooting on a range supervised and out on your own are 2 totally dif things . . . [i can fully understand this point, but a shoot should be sort of a controlled situation - either by yourself, or someone else, no? Also, even though the range days were "controlled", it was still up to me and my capabilities to actually aim the SLR and fire it though] . . . apply for a .22lr or .17hmr if you want a bit more punch stay on it for a year and then apply for your CF if you feel the need . . . [thanks very much for your advice - taken on board!] Shotgun is centrefire but its a shotgun slugs are section 1 . . . [again, i can see this point - i was merely trying to say that centre fire means centre fire, in repect of the fact the all have a percussion cap in the centre - that sort of ilk] Thank you sincerely for your comments Peter

fiiish1987
Sounds good but is't their the issue of joe public wandering around the place? I know you could put up signs saying your there but joe is very stupid and those with an interest will aproach you and want a chat about the whole aspect of airgunning and will scare everything off. The antis will purposefully scare everything off and those who don't see the signs will be bound to get in the way making it dangerous. Just a thought (not very positive though). Also you'd have to be carefull about not doing it near any funerals and upsetting people. However, lamping there could be very good (nobody goes into a crem after dark as they reckon they'll be mugged) as nobody goes there it then makes a crem the safest place to be after nightfall. Well thought out, but this will not be a problem in the part where I will mainly be - ie the part is a staff only area, set in the middle of a wood, and with no public admittance whatsoever, and the staff are enthusiasts as well in one way or t'other. As for the funerals - again a good thought but i will only be there at w/ends, and only by prior arrangement anyway - the Crem Super knows this as i have said that in writing. Cheers fella. SNAKEBITE
My mother used to collect the eyes from dead people. Not as a hobby but as part of the Donor program where they were were doing cornea grafts and the like. Basically saving the sight of people who were going blind. You have to develop a sense of humour as a defence mechanism otherwise it does you in. I have been out with her and helped with the removal of said organs and believe me it is an eye opener.
