Aled
Hello All Many of you on here leave your dogs in kennels during the day. Does anybody leave a chew, bone, toy or anything else for them to munch on whilst they are kennelled? If so what do you use? Many thanks Aled Edited June 28, 2018 by Aled
Bigbob
Kennel doors get opened soon as we are up they get out get biscuit ,chew clean themselves , loaf around the garden following the sun toys and bones there , till they get exercised then shut away just before bed time must be mind numbing being in kennels all day
Aled
I hear where you are coming from Bigbob, however the kennel does have a run, and the dog does get lots of exercise, attention etc from early morning and from 4.30pm onwards. Worth noting that even when we are home the dog still sleeps between 4 and 5 hours during the day. Dave at kelton
I only leave something when they are pups, usually a block of hardwood that they chew on or throw around. Once mature they just lie out if the weather is fine or hunker down in the kennels together if bad. They really don't need entertaining but pups do get bored and will play with the other dogs or chew the kennels so a wooden block seems to help. You will see two are lying out and the other two are inside in the shade. The kennel block has two separate kennels and runs so I can split them up if necessary. scutt
When I get a pup it's placed in the kennel with other dogs and settles down as they know nothing else they are no bother .As for chewing well you either got a chewer or not so if its a chewer it will have a go at anything it can get its teeth into .At a young age you want them to think all play ,joy or pleasure that includes food comes from you when you let them out of the kennel /run so for me a bored or inactive pup in the kennel makes for a keen learner when you let them come with you . That not to say they have to be unhappy in the run or have no social skills the pup learns its place in the pack from the other dogs and I think it takes comfort and contentment in this . If the pup is inn on its own then sometimes a radio with a talk station on, can help to settle them, or a child's soft toy I have found even a chewer won't destroy its comforter . Aled you give attention both morning and after 4.30 then the pup is only left alone for about the same time as it would sleep at night so no real harm done as it will probably snooze thru the day when its quite .As always only my take on things.
