billytheghillie
I know nowt about landies, but recently I have seen quite a few about. Got me wondering if they ever made them in automatic. So landie experts can you put me right?

B391
Yes, but very few, normally with a V8. But you can find some converted to auto. I converted a Defender 2,4 to an auto box using the services from Ashcroft Transmissions. They are about but a tad rare or have been really modified and cost a bomb. countryman
You would not want a standard defender diesel in auto ( if they exist ) most conversion will have a fuel tanker of an engine fitted and probably an up rated drive train to take the power, I would imagine lots of fun but as said mega bucks to buy. Β Not true, the TD5, 2.4 and 2.2 Defender engines can have a professional ECU tune for not too much money that makes the world of difference. I had my 2.4 tuned from the standard 122 bhp to 150 bhp with a huge increase in torgue, ideal for an auto and I had a 2.2 tuned to 165bhp.Β There is no need to uprate the drive train either. The tunes also make the Defender much much more driveable and easy on motorways. Have a look at these 2 tuners which I have used in the past.Β There are several others that might be a consideration: https://bellautoservices.co.uk/ http://www.alivetuning.com/landrover/ Β

I have had a few land rovers so I don't think it's my driving style. Any ideas .
B391
Thankfully none of my Defenders suffered from backlash, despite the upgrades and being driven quite hard. They also did regular proper off road as well. Have you had a look at the following forum. Huge amount of information.Β http://www.defender2.net/forum/ Β Β
