GirlfromtheNordcountry
Was in Boxing gym. Heard this strange expression. Perhaps it is slang. At home we have ‘Dog Days’ of summer. Can anyone explain?
henry d
The way I think of it is the temperature was so hot and the air so humid at the end of summer that even the dogs could only lay around. Possibly from old british colonial times
panoma1
In fishing terms the "dog days" are days in high summer when fish "sulk" down in the lower, cooler water during the heat of the day, and do not feed freely, making catching them very difficult!.....if considered in a canine context it could be the lazy days of summer when a dog sleeps in the shade during the heat of the day.....similar in human terms too hot to do anything! panoma1
On a little research the dog days were named by the Greeks/Romans as the Dog Star, Sirius, Canis Major.......was noticed to shine brightly in the long hot days after the summer solstice! Rewulf
Is it like when mummy and daddy are 'play fighting' but in the style of dogs ?

Ricko
"Dog Rounds is the term used by former WBA Lightweight World Champion Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini to describe the rounds from thirteen to fifteen in World Title fights."
