winnie&bezza
Afternoon all, Just missed call from an unknown number as I couldn’t answer it. About a minute later the Mrs calls asking if I have had a call from Kent police asking if I want to renew my firearms license early. Now I presume they meant shotgun as I know longer hold a firearms but I renewed in 2017! Tried to call back but no answer. Can anyone shed any light? TIGHTCHOKE
A lot of Forces are trying to get this done to prevent the expected backlog when lots of renewals happen at the same point. Say yes, get it done!
walshie
They charge pro-rata according to the time left on your existing SGC.
winnie&bezza
I’ve got 3 years left from April! Seems a bit quick. So they will deduct the 3 year cost off?
TIGHTCHOKE
They will work it out pro-rata and sort it out. They can see a problem looming as a lot of renewals fall on the anniversary of it changing duration.
Dangerous Brian
I sent mine back to West Mercia this morning. I have to applaud the fact the firearms department is trying to sort out future problems ahead of time rather than just carrying on knowing a big mess is heading their way. Wingman
Thames valley are doing this, I had a letter back in November offering the same thing. Cant recall how much it was but less than a normal renewal that said its now nearly Feb and the new SGC hasn't arrived, but at least I still have 2 years left on my current one. Hopefully enough time for them to sort it out.
Brodie
Will Kent Police be expecting you to pay for a GP letter?
sandsie1
My son had this call a couple of weeks ago, he renewed in 2017 and was told it would cost him £17 plus the cost of the doctors paperwork as per a normal renewal.
