Anyone see the add in the City AM London paper today - good ad for Clay shooting over the centre spread with an entry form for two gun teams for a comp in Sept at the West London Shooting School. £150.00 per team (says no professionals or semi professionals which is where I come in ;) )

Stuck my name down, anyone else going?

Ad says 80 contestants on a first come first serve basis. £10,000 worth of prizes and the day's worth £300 per person but reduced to £75per person due to the sponsors (only two man teams can enter). Doesn't say how many clays but seems to include lunch. If you're a member of the CPSA they ask for your number and check the website - presumably checking for bandits ;)

Takes place Sept 20th. Contact name/number if interested is Jen Weatherley 01962 850676.

I like the idea of feretting out the bandits - people that wouldn't stand a chance of winning something now stand a chance perhaps?

I have found the link - took a wild guess on taking the underscore out of the link between "city" and "am".

I have stuck my name down and will see what happens.

Half tidy shooters with no CPSA track record drop me a line and join the winning team - team Mungler.

Mungler,

If you think that this sort of comp is going to be won by a genuine "Newbie" and not a short, dark skinned, chubby guy with a zapata moustache and a big sombrero, wearing a teeshirt with "I Love Mexico City" on it, then dream on matey. :o

There have been a lot of these sort of events over recent years, be careful to read the small print in the prize list, there are many catches here.

I'm also intrigued by the statement "Professional or Semi-Professional shooters should not enter", what does this mean..??

I don't earn a living from shooting, therefore I surely wouldn't be classed as a pro or semi pro.

Would I be rejected as I have won the odd shoot in the past, but hang on, so has Pin, should he be barred from entering..?? ;)

I've shot West London many times, and they can put on some tasty targets there, if you're serious about winning then I would suggest you book a lesson there.

Better still, save your £75 and persuade everybody else to put the same amount into a pot to be won on a "Winner takes all" basis at the Bisley Clay session on August 5th.

Wise words from Cat, I am a retired ex sporting International vet shooter, never been a pro shooter either, I would not pay £1.00 a clay in a comp like this all you are doing is padding out the prize dough to people who probally shoot 2 to three times a week and in the end will end up with the real prizes. Lets see who takes the pot?. ;)

Went along to the shoot not knowing what to expect for the £75 entry fee. Had coffee and crumpets and each two man team were put into squads of eight. We shot ten stands which included two stands where we shot a two man flush which were both brilliant. One of stands was the Purdey challenge. On here you chose which target to shoot and each had points according to difficulty. To make the stand even more interesting you shot it with a £68k Purdey gun! Shooting was followed by a meal in the Marquee.

To our astonishment we came third overall winning a trophy and a simulated game day

We were even more astonished to learn we had also won the Purdey challenge winning a £1000 worth of Purdey clothing – each :lol:

Grab a copy of the City AM paper (the free handout in London) if you see one, the shoot will be covered in the paper tomorrow (Friday).

First prizes I've ever won and I'm chuffed to bits :):P

No bandits in sight!!!

Bagsy that is as major a result as any have had on here.

People will have won the odd registered and so on, but don't know many who walk away with like £1200+ in prises. Sure you win a gun from beretta for winning a major, but if you needed on of those you'd have one.

You should be, and probably are, rightly proud!
