Fen tiger
Patterning shotguns is useful but its two dimensional and i have often thought about ways of getting the shot string length or how the shot bloom hits. Cameras at 30/ 60 Frames per Second would show some of the stringing efect, but it would be hard to draw any accurate conclusions. So for the mathamaticians on here is there a formulae model that could give at least a theoretical fourth dimension to the pattern based just around Measured FPS and time of flight. I am realising the stringing of shot is no big deal in the scheme of things regarding good wing shooting , but its unknown aspect to me i have read all the theory in burard brister and others on stringing but now steel is here where is that with regards to stringing is it less more i do not know. Any ideas on this subject please.
TIGHTCHOKE
Many years ago experiments were conducted with a steam train and a carriage at 40mph.
Fen tiger
That is mentioned here tight choke, along with other experiments. To be fair i think this little video draws a reasonable conclusion on shot stringing, but it is focused on length not the shape of the bloom. Fen tiger
The bloom shape might be hard to determine and what dictates the shape harder to work out, for an instance choke ? What exactly will choke cause in a shot bloom, will it be more egg shaped with more shoke or more cigar shaped? Or the other way around? A thing that has interested me is the chokes with wad grabbing sections like pattern mastters wad wizards and others. these chokes can often look less than ideal on paper but seem to work well even to ranges the paper patterns would not perhaps sujest they would, another video here i think is trying to explain this. Yep, also Burrard's truck and better yet, Mr Griffith's revolving wheel. Still think it's a crying shame that the BRL shut down after submitting its report to Defra - athough it must be said that that is why it was set up in the first place - as had some stake holders chipped in and kept it going for a while longer then many such questions could have been answered. Fen tiger
I do not have a horse in this race in that i dont own a pattern master, but the theory looks sound more explained here which might just go some way to answering the questions on another dimention to shotgun patterns. I don't believe that wad stripper chokes do anything that they are claimed to do.

I believed the same but i shoot with a lad who has a wad wizard in his gold ten i have a 720 terror choke in mine much of the time and a .705 i use some times, and i will say the wad wizard suprised me how well it patterned i can not remember the exact percentages now but it was close to the .720 on percent with a CSB0 load of BBB we were patterning back then. Patternmasters the old original ones i do not know about the new ones had a good reputation in the 2000s but have heard some say they are not as good now. I will stick with the terrors but i do think this type of choke has some potential the wad wizard showed me that.

I now have a .705 Terror in the 10, and a .655 Terror for the 12. The WW (and others) is supposed to retard the wad etc, to send the shot out all at once, for a smaller shot string. I believe it to be just a sales gimmick. Edited March 8, 2019 by motty

Where NTS is not required, wouldn't the best idea to achieve the same objective be a fibre type wad? The only problem being is that protection from the barrel wall is lost.
