panoma1
I understand Ilkley Moor is currently ablaze, I wonder if the local antis who got Grouse shooing stopped there, will volunteer to replace the gamekeepers who lost their jobs as a result! After all it was probably they who were in the frontline when wildfires started on the moor? Rhetorical question because I believe I can guess the answer! rovercoupe
Drove past it this aft as it was underway and looked pretty bad, its on the side where the crags and woodland is and there were a lot of fire engines heading there. I just hope bboim or whatever they call themselfs are happy with the mess.
manthing
Not only have the council lost the income from the lease, they lost the specialist equipment and manpower the shoot provided. As they are now no longer managing the Moor, controlled burns and fire breaks are no longer happening. They also landed the residents with a massive overspend on overtime and helicopters. Gross misconduct in any other workplace.
GingerCat
It was a bbq that started it according to the news.
figgy
Well there is certainly burning and fire breaks in it now. Bit of luck council will realise it needs managing and get a shoot to look after it.
Lord v
According to a chap on the news the locals are upset about the recent lack of management of the Moor and there have been a few fires this year already. Whodathunk it.
