wymberley
According to the BBC and with tongue firmly in cheek, if you've been a bit of a naughty boy/girl and are not quite sure if your record will permit you being granted a SGC or FAC, best you move to the Isle Of Man where apparently some 40% of certificate holders have criminal convictions. Gameking
Not only that but a great many of our boys (and girls) in blue have criminal convictions - I trust that helps them making a sensible assessment of character based on their own experiences of the criminal justice system 🙄 For my money you cannot be a serving police officer with any criminal convictions. Shouldnt it be dependent on what it was actually for ? Scrumping apples when you were a kid could end up in a conviction, does that mean they are a bad person ? Admittedly ,armed robbery should be a bar to joining the police or possessing firearms ! But if someone has a valid use within the police, like specialist language skills, or some other sought after skill, why should some minor convictions, years ago preclude them from joining. As far as licenced firearms ownership, many people on here, including myself, have a criminal record, which I am sure has been held to some scrutiny, and passed that scrutiny. 40 % doesnt sound too bad to be honest, Im pretty sure they cant all be violent criminals, as violent crime with legal firearms is mercifully very low.
