dipper
Over the years I have collected a few hazel nuts .Usually picked up of the ground.Tried letting them dry out. figgy
Wait till you see some fallen in the ground under the bushes. Then pick and leave to ripen for a few weeks. Should taste nice with a decent but if but inside. Not comercial size usually unless you have a very good filbert with large cobs. If you find lots of small ones they make good kindling or fire starter if soaked in barbecue lighting fluid.
moor man
First shoot all the grey squirrels! Then you may be in with a chance. Round here they work the trees, eat everything good and drop the empty nuts and rubbish, bu##ers!
bluesj
I all ways eat the straight off the tree but you need to remove the "skin" then they are lovely and sweet.
Walker570
When the nut comes away from the sheath it is ripe and will be a nice light brown colour. As said if you don't keep the tree rats down you will not likely get any. Pick them too early and .....YUCK!!
