old'un
“Milne had a licence for badger culling issued by Natural England, but these animals had been killed outside of the cull period” If they were frozen how would they know when they were shot? Unless he told them when they were shot?

Unless he told them when they were shot? I was thinking the same thing, if he had been doing something naughty I can't imagine he would have been daft enough to admit it. old'un
Do we know how long he has held a NE licence for? If he has held one for some time is it not possible they were shot last season?
Benthejockey
You have to wonder what he did to come to their attention in the first place. I always wondered if you were unscrupulous enough if you could collect roadkill badgers - the nice ones not the oozy ones - and shoot the carcass and get paid out? It would be financially in his interest to freeze them till the 4th season when they're worth £40 a badger!

Well it looks like he actually admitted shooting them out of season and you were right about road kills, read this article on the case…https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/dad-illegally-killed-nearly-30-3512101
