I know there are quite a few guys out there who go sea fishing. Does anybody fancy getting together for a bash somewhere? Bit of a BBQ, few tinnies, hopefully a few fish getting caught. More silly stories to be relayed on here of members and their antics. Atogether more relaxing and it seems the weathers going to be pretty good for the rest of the month too.

MC you up for it?

Pavman - I could do with casting lesson on my multiplier?

Whitebridges - Chance to meet up?

Anybody else????:P??

How bizarre, I was going to post about getting a boat out on the sea sometime, if someone knows a relaible skipper?

I am sure MC would agree that Chris Moles running out of West Mersea is a top skipper. Last time out between Xmas and New years we had a good bag of whiting, skate, small codling, doggies, some flatties.

Trouble is all the skippers get booked up real quick through the summer season. I believe the last trip I had out with 6 of us on board it cost us £55 including bait which consisted of Lug, Squid, Hermit crab, mackeral and Rag in good amounts.

What about a wrecking trip with muppets and perks? I went on one a while back out of southwold had 20 nice cod best of 15lbs, I have found most inshore bait fishing on the south coast to be a bit hit and miss due to strong tides etc, perking over wrecks is great sport if sometimes a tad expensive

I am happy to go with the flow and will see if I can get any info on local boats to add to the post and options on offer

on the fresh water front my brother had 65lb of Bream off Oulton Broad on monday night in just a few hrs

I would part with the dosh if personally Pavman guaranteed that I would get cod for the freezer

Sounds like a good day.

So who is booking it and when?

OK trying not to highjack SS post........soooo

will post on boat availability soon as known, and like i said its an option but IMHO a very good one if enough lads are up for it, if we go this route a deposit has to be paid and its best to be 100% sure you can make it up front, dropping out of a beach meet up is no big shakes, dropping out of a £50 to £100 boat slot is going to effect the others,

we did cod and bass last time and fessing up only me and one other did not land a bass (live sand eel bait) best was about 8lbs, I made up for it with the best cod

am out with SS tonight so we can discuss then and he can slap me back in my place

Jeez that is 160 miles from me

(I will give Mungler a days worth of material here)

"I was thinking more like Littlehampton"

Stuartp,

Also living in the land locked home counties I know how you feel

I'd be up for a south coast trip, and I'm sure I could convince a few others (pin/ss?)

Mungler,

Need to be abit colder for cod of a decent size for the freezer (Why freeze it, skipper will gut and fillet it if you ask nicely).

Pavman,

There will be no slapping back in place or otherwise tonight. And no apologies for Hijacking of post either. I like boat and beach fishing, and am up for which ever. Never been out of Southwold, done Yarmouth and lowestoft once each, Brightlingsea and Mersea two or three times. Gets better each time out.

We'll chat later and sort something out.

I would be up for that, it's a bit more social than shooting, you don't have to shout at people or just nod and smile at someone, having not heard a single word they have said

The trouble is, there are loads of 'skippers' who will take your money and take you out without a hope in hell of ever catching anything.

I have only been a few times and have learnt quickly that is helps to book based on a recomendation.

Stuartp,

I know where your coming from there. The trip out of Yarmouth was aboard an old 50ft lifeboat and the gear was probably used by Captain Ahab whilst chasing Moby ****, line was knotted and joined with odd bits and pieces all over the place. The same could be said for the trip out of Brightlingsea as MC will testify the bait was rank at least three days old.

Having said that Chris Moles out of Mersea, the bait was fresh, with the hermit crabs having been caught the night before and left in a sack over the side of the boat which was brought up when we left the mooring. On top of that if an area isn't producing Chris will make sure everybody is ok before moving off to another spot. I have been out with him twice or three times and each time was a good day's fishing even on one occassion in rough seas and we still caught. Top bloke in my opinion.

Right then

Just spoken with the skipper and looks like best bet is 6 to 8 rods for the big Bass early sept, the method is to drift for live sand eels first with plas shrimps, tank them and then again drift over the banks for Bass with live eel baits.

The skipper is going to give me dates (most likley a week day so you will need to be able to take a day off) but anyone happy with this option needs to jump on it and confirm their interest, if the Consensus is we go for other options (beach fishing) then we dont want to muck anyone about.

My uncle runs a charter out of Lowestoft, If you after a cheapie I could always skipper for you lot for a day.

I will enquire

Good Man

Pavman,

As per phone call let me know. Still up for beach trip as well if others are interested.

SS

SS don’t encourage him,

His uncle is a chartered accountant not a skipper, last time Starlight was at the helm was on Thorpness Mere in a row boat and he ran that aground

I'd be up for a fish. In fact i'm going tonight, don't know where yet it's my mates turn to pick the venue. We'll be trying for a sole or two I should think.

The mistress out of Southwold is the boat for wrecking we had 132 cod to 11lb this year and landed over 30 stone of fish. Mind you we were 28 miles out to sea.

I'm forever optimisic there will we a decent run of early codling. October time you sometimes see a cross over of summer species, like sole, bass combined with the start of the winter fishing (whiting, codling) and this can be a good time to go. If possible I would leave the planning late and go at the drop of a hat when the fishing is good. I had several reasonable bags of up to 11 codling to 3.5lbs last year combined with the odd blank!

Here's a few from Walberswick, caught last year.
