Dunkield
http://www.rivercottage.net/ I was tempted by the catch and cook day, having read a write up in one of the papers - but £225 + B&B is just too steep. Good luck to him though he has a huge following and is making money hand over fist.
njc110381
I like to watch it if it's repeated on sky. The guy has a good country background and is doing ok for himself, which I like to see. Most of what he does is pretty true to life. I really enjoyed the programme where he got a bunch of fast food townies back to his place, took them to see a mass production chicken farm, then made them sort out a meat from a live chicken. Their faces were a picture and one woman stopped eating chicken completely I was a bit uncertain about him shooting doves off a barn with a .22 rimmy, but I have a feeling they were firing CB longs or something because he's not that stupid

monkeyjaimz
I bought one his first books about 9 years ago, been a fan ever since. My favourite recepie title so far is 'bunny a la runny honey' that book also has a section on roadkill and its uses.

lord_seagrave
I agree with Hugh on the particular subject of driven game. His opinion is hardly that wide of the mark when you consider the "corporate" days and trigger-happy foreign shots that take part - occasionally (or perhaps not so occasionally) with a very low success rate, and even lower in the clean killing stakes. I don't have the book in front of me, but I don't think he generalises too wildly. He does not discredit the huge number of responsible, well-practised shots out there for whom the humane disposal of vermin (and the humane harvesting of wild and semi-wild food) is a very serious matter. The River Cottage ethical stance towards the treament of all animals is spot-on - it is all the more valid because their enthusiasm for eating meat is huge (cf: bunny-hugging types about which we all know). I imagine they're making a pile of cash, and I'm pretty sure that some of this is going back into the local economy. The dove-shooting episode... Well, I think there is a well-considered body of opinion on here that that was a bit cavalier and I don't disagree. As a series, RC is first-class entertainment - good luck to HFW et al. njc110381
Read what he says about driven game shooting and see if you think the same !! As has been mentioned by LS before me, there's a lot to game shooting that I don't fully agree with either. A bunch of toffs that can't shoot to save their lives, blasting away shot after shot to try to bring down as many birds as they can. Do they take them home, or even care what use they are once killed? I doubt it! Organised shoots that give a bit of sport to people like you and me are ok. Those of us that take a few birds for the pot or the local butcher do no harm. We only take on realistic birds that we think have a fair chance of being hit cleanly and it's good for the local economy. I read somewhere about a shoot buying a packing machine so these crazy people can take a couple of birds home for the pot cleaned and oven ready just like they're from Waitrose! At least they get eaten that way, but I still think it's a bit wrong

Another thing that is wrong is the price of game in the fur/feather, to me it`s a delight but it doesn`t help shoots.
