I’ve got the set for my Winchester Waterfowl and they pattern well with lead and steel.

Is that the old 101 and are you putting hp steel through it ? I’ve a 101 classic doubles field gun from 1990 and wonder how it would cope with steel . It is proofed for the 3 inch 1 7/8 oz lead cartridges.

Sorry  for diverting the thread cookoff013

I used to put Gamebore Super steel HP 34gram 4’s through my old 101 Diamond Grade. Nothing tighter than half as that was the tightest I had at the time. Never did it any harm at all.

Thanks Scully that’s good to know. I was thinking of selling it ,reluctantly ,but I think I will hold on to it as with the multichokes and 3 inch chambering it might prove to be more of an asset in the future, and  it is a nice gun

Yep ... it’s a 101.

I don’t put a lot of steel through it, just use it on the odd high bird day, and a few simulated game days.

That might have to change in the future!

Thanks they are a nice gun especially in the waterfowl model. I had a model 23 waterfowl model but sold it on nice gun for the shore especially with 1 7/8  Number 2 lead loads when that was what we used.

As you use Smokersmith  as your forum name you don’t happen to use a 6500 for clays do you ?

Noooo, don’t sell it! It is a Winchester 101 in all but name, and I think you’d regret it at some point. Totally capable of handling steel shot.

Mate has the same chokes set  long and medium in his 425 waterfowl. I went with two Briley IM extended .705 in my 425 waterfowl and i wish i had doubled up on  the carlsens when he ordered them. I think you will be pleased with them.

I wanted to buy and test a load, to see what happens. I can change speed and shotsize. The world is my oyster.

Are you looking to achieve the biggest possible improvement from, say typical factory construction chokes. What shot type and size are you intending using. Or do you want an all rounder that will stand out eassily as an improvement. Waterfowl Or bigger spread predator style or you want the tightest / Turkey type.

A bit of everthing really. I wanted to have a dedicated steel choke, i can reload anything, but wanted a choke for 25g#2 at 1400.and switch out shosize too 4s -BB. I do plan to get some more premium nontoxic shot so standard chokes are enough

I've used Carlson Wildfowling chokes in a Benelli iirc that's a Beretta Mobil to Optima choke, they worked very well. Not cheap with post and taxes.

I now use Briley in the Maxus.

Can't tell a difference using the same carts that I used in the Benelli.
