I have an Eglu and highly rate it. Its easy to clean (soapy water), insulated and mine is in Om;ets original orange!

Totally agree with this.

They're certainly not a gimmick. I bought an eglu that was already a few years old and we've now had it a further decade. It looks the same as when we bought it.

We added an eglu cube 2nd hand and a large solway 2nd hand.

I'd never bother with wood. Never even seen a red mite.

When I had my chooks at best point in excess of 30 (that's a different story) I started off with 6 ex battery hens that when I got them were in the usual horrible to look at condition ... bought for £3 a bird from local battery farm......

So got home and started feeding on layers pellets with poultry spice mixed and some apple cider vinegar in their water and 2 days after bringing them home they started laying and within 3ish weeks you could barely tell they had been battery hens and kept on laying until I had to get rid of all of my chooks (was gutted) ...

Ring round the nearest battery farms to you to see if they are selling off birds .

But imho the first 2 things to buy from poultry supplies are a big tub of poultry spice and a gallon of apple cider vinegar

You will end up catching the chook bug tho !! I did hence 30+  birds of mixed breeds
