Jim Neal
😅 Thanks for cheering me up with the replies chaps. Panels all rectified, transported and installed. Job done 👍 As a footnote, if anyone's looking for decent quality larch-lap type panels but are fed up with the utter crud on offer from the DIY sheds, I got mine from Jewsons for about £25 a panel, which is actually the same price as the utter rubbish you'll get in B&Q, Wickes etc.. They're called "Grange Superior Lap". What makes them "superior" is instead of framing the panel by just sandwiching the laps between two laths which are nailed through, these have a good quality, solid planed timber frame with a 1" slot rebated all the way around the inside. The laps fit snugly in to the rebates and each corner is joined with a mortice & tenon joint. They're extremely well made and are noticeably a bit sturdier and heavier than your average cheapo larch lap panel. There is one issue though, which isn't a problem if you're reasonably handy. Due to the solid frame and mortice & tenons, if you want to adjust the width of a panel it is a BALL ACHE!! It's not like a standard cheap panel where you just lever out the laths, fix them to size and run your saw down it. Oh no. You have to cut every fixing pin with a multi-tool, not forgetting the ones holding the corner joints together, then cut it down remembering to leave the laps 1" longer than the top and bottom rails. And if you have to adjust the height of a panel you have to do all of that plus cut a new tenon joint on the end of the side rail. I had to adjust the width of one and the height of another 😫 good job I'm not a complete numpty or I'd have stood no chance (and probably been off to buy another panel or two).
