FOXCALLER
Hi guys, about 18 months ago I purchased a Howa heavy barrel varmint in.223 ,the barrel is 24" long and l believe it is number 6 profile. Due to recent health issues I am now finding this combo difficult to lug around the fields. Thinking of 2 options either trade in for lightweight rifle or get barrel shortened to 20" to reduce weight.i know i would lose some velocity but would shortening effect accuracy..what do you guys think would be best.. Thanks. Foxcaller

enfieldspares
Buy a BSA Hunter in .222 Remington and say goodbye to your lugging problems. Holt's have one in the June Sale.
welshwarrior
It depends on what the issue is unbalanced hard to carry or to heavy. Rebalance with shortening fine and if done well will improve accuracy, to heavy a few inches of won’t make much difference, so trade in or rework the set up lighter mod, stock, scope, shorten etc.
reindeer
My suggestion would be to have a look at the Howa mini action for a .222/223 caliber rifle.
