Blackpowder
I am finding that a weed killer from Homebase is destroying what is above ground, but it still spreads underneath. A tip I was given is to mix vinegar with weed killer to make it more effective. Blackpowder
GingerCat
A lad at work uses kurtail evo I think. Says it does the job convincingly. I have some but can't see it in the beds so it will have to wait till spring to sort.
7daysinaweek
Wonder if it is related to 'Bamboo!' May be 'conservative management' approach only with such a nuisance.

Yeah bamboo can be a pain to get rid of to,although I'm sure if you got my better half to look after either of these plants she'd kill them no problems at all, she seems to kill anything she plants so I don't see why not. DoolinDalton
Even though mares tail is a nuisance, it does have at least one use. As it contains Silica, which is essential in human cells in order to absorb calcium ( so I read somewhere!), a tea can be made from the fresh new shoots. I’ve never tried it though! Crikey to hang with the tea infusion, I've got more than enough showing above ground to harvest it and make a bath additive. Doing that I could just lie in the bath and by pure osmosis soon be healthier than before😀 Pushkin😎
