moor man
I've been asked to service a mates meteor mk2 which has a leather washer, what is the best oil to use for the washer? Along with new washer I'm fitting new spring, guide, breech seal and screws. The old cracked spring guide parted during disassembly. Thanks in advance... ditchman
can you use a parachute seal instead ...?...........then just use dry graphite powder ?............(less drag).......think they make a conversion

London Best
Just use engine oil or lubricating oil.

ditchman
a thin oil that dosnt evapourate and get stiff............cause that will create drag maybe a silicon grease......(it wont desiel)...that will keep the leather supple and then rub it in graphite powder Edited August 24, 2021 by ditchman
bruno22rf
Do not use Silicone of any sort where metal to metal contact could become coated.

bruno22rf
Silicone is not designed for lubricating metal to metal and can actually cause moving parts to seize and even cause wear, Google "can I use silicone oil/grease for metal/metal. moor man
Ta for replies but I'm none the wiser, surely it's not metal to metal in air rifle chamber but leather to metal?

So you think that what ever lubricates the washer will not find its way back to the piston head and skirt? Mineral oil will diesel, fact, but it was about all anyone had back in the day, Neat's foot oil is the best you will find but it's not cheap and you have to buy 1/2 ltr at a time usually. London Best
Nearly all the older springers with leather washers were expected to burn a little oil with every shot. Nowt wrong with neatsfoot, I have used it myself. But I prefer mineral oil. Edited August 25, 2021 by London Best
Chaz25
grease, light oil and white spirit, soak it then fit, spring guns work best burning a small amount of fuel per cycle, with what ever you put on the spring being shunted forward and acting as fuel and lube.
