We tried to get there in the summer holidays with our boy, but ran out of free days, I was really looking forward to it as well!https://www.silverstonemuseum.co.uk/tickets/?gclid=Cj0KCQjws4aKBhDPARIsAIWH0JUegCZUwaDwDOyWcCxYe0QenxFunJ5_cVSdMg4Y46DuvJSCmL3tqAEaAmwSEALw_wcB 1 hour ago, handy4454 said: The canal museum at Stoke Bruerne, stroll across the lock gates to the Boat Inn, lunch and a couple of pints. That's a really good shout, haven't been for ages but it's interesting. The canal (OK, pub) is a very pleasant place to be on these late summer evenings when it stays warm-ish. If you want to cheer yourself up, drive to Corby and park on Elizabeth Street in the town centre. Lock your doors though. Just think, you could be like THEM. It could always be worse. You're staying right next door to a heritage steam railway but it looks like it's closed until Sunday, probably manned by volunteers in their free time I'd guess. You've got the Derngate Theatre in Northampton town centre and loads of eateries nearby.https://www.royalandderngate.co.uk/ There's a National Trust place at Canons Ashby which is worth a look, not too much walking and there's places to sit if needed.https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/canons-ashby Over Bedford way there's a clay ground if you think you'd get away with it 😁https://www.sportingtargets.co.uk/ My sister did her one year work placement as part of her degree course at Sedgebrook, also I went to a wedding reception there a few years back. This'll be costing you a few more quid than a Travelodge! 😱 Have fun both of you
ehb102
Ah, near Chapel Brampton. Lots of my relatives in that area, mostly in the churchyard 🙂 The Derngate Theatre and the Royal Theatre are both excellent. The Royal is an old fashioned treat, perfect for a play. The Derngate has the best acoustics, Northampton was a very musical town around the time it was built. Don't know about now. Lamport Hall is near you, that's a nice stately home with some interest. Former owner introduced garden gnomes to England. Also ALthorp House. Rockingham Castle is a little trip out. If you want a little wander around the shops and a coffee shop then https://www.heartoftheshires.co.uk/ Stoke Bruerne is pretty, and all there is to see is within 300 yards, so not much walking before you retire to the Boat Inn for Northamptonshire skittles (we throw cheeses at our skittles you know, and they sit on a table). Take a boat ride up and through the tunnel if you like, but it's dark and dank and smelly.

Maybe they've changed their business model or do lower rates for weekdays. Bargain! Hope you've been enjoying your break

Bargain! Hope you've been enjoying your break Back home now was a 2 night break . We enjoyed the time away as it was the 1st time away in 3yrs as the Mrs had to shield during lock down and it took some persuading to get her to go as I believe it has had a mental effect on her confidence . That aside I have to say sedgebrook hall was good . It needs a little bit of TLC but bearing in mind the time that the hospitality industry has been through of late they have done ok . The grounds were very well kept the room was clean but could have benefited a redecorating but that's my opinion ... Food was excellent staff were very helpful/pleasant . Would I travel the 4 hours to go back ?? Hell yes in a blink of an eye!!! In fact I'm in the process of convincing her . Next time I'm seriously thinking of loading my fishing stuff as I passed a couple of fisheries not far from the hotel and she quite likes sitting watching while I fish Edited September 18, 2021 by hodge911 Spelling correction
