claydodger
Got the same problem with VHS tapes, also cassette tapes, cine film, 35mm slides and I have just found a box of 35mm film strip, obviously a financial nightmare to pay for digitizing. I have managed to source a cassette player and done a bit of copying to computer, next is a vhs/dvd combo and do them, with any luck. I remember transferring quite a few of my VHS tapes onto DVD. Easy to do too.
Gu5
Just wondering, if they’re copyrighted videos would a commercial company transfer them for you?

I bought one of these Ion Slides forever scanner a few years ago to digitize my father's 35mm slide collection - example attached, I know where my love of blue cars came from - would have been maybe 1962! Super easy to do with a PC. Edited January 10, 2022 by Cosmicblue
claydodger
That looks like a very good picture, I assume you are the handsome chap on the right. I've looked at several scanners, bit pricy, plus the option of using an SLRD camera, even pricier, or even a mobile camera, but that picture doesn't look too bad so I will have look at one of them. Have you still got the car.
Cosmicblue
Blue car - sadly not. In fact I don't even remember it..getting on for 60 years ago now. Edited January 10, 2022 by Cosmicblue
Cosmicblue
To BigBob's original question - I'd source a VHS recorder and a kit like this: Video 2 PC. I have encountered quite a few R/RW recordable CDs and DVDs in my collection that are circa 15 years old and now unreadable now so I'd suggest writing the data to a PC disk and creating a backup duplicate as a better long term option.
