neutron619
Hello Chaps, I have a pre-1928 bolt-action garden gun that I picked up from wabbitbosher some years ago as a project gun. It was in a pretty battered state, but I wanted something interesting that I could work on, and something small enough that my kids could have a go at shooting tin cans in their gran's (large, suitable) garden. We had quite a few enjoyable afternoons with it and I've been slowly improving the condition of it as I've been able. The kids are all now big enough to shoot a .410 or a 20 and I am working more hours than I used to, so the probability of me finishing the project as I'd intended seems rather remote now. As such, I've decided to put it here to see if anyone's interested in taking it either for introducing their kids / grandkids to shooting or to finish the work I started. Since acquiring the gun, I've removed all surface rust from the metalwork, lightly sanded the components where needed and reblued all of them. Nothing has been done that would make the gun out of proof or affect its ability to bear pressure. I have repaired the trigger which was worn down after many years of use and when I got the gun, didn't always snap cleanly. It now does. I have also repaired the pieces which secure the gun into the stock and built a new fastening for that purpose. What remains is re-stocking the gun and possibly some work on the firing pin, which is quite rounded after 100 years of use and could probably be sharpened up. The stock is about 12" and I had intended to buy a nice piece of wood and give it an adult-sized stock - purely for the sake of doing it. I almost got to it during lockdown, but my router table collapsed and here I am, two years later and I still haven't replaced it. With the state of things as they are, I don't think I'm going to get round to it any time soon, not least because HQ might view a new router table as an unjustified expense at this point. So I'm offering the gun as "free to a good home", in the hope that either someone might take it on and give it a bit more TLC, or that it could help some small people have their first go at shooting. I'd prefer it didn't go and sit at the back of someone's cabinet for the next 10 years, unused. Obviously, it doesn't have much utility in the field, but I'd be pleased if it could be taken for some purpose or provide some amount of entertainment / education, rather than being scrapped. Please let me know if you're interested. Pictures below. Post code is CB22 and I think I probably need to say collection only. Whatever cartridges I have for it will come for free also. Adam.
