Pedro
God this Nanny state lark is gettin on the proverbials. I'm afraid I'm with LB, (And probably most on here), it's bloody hard to stay under the "recommended" amount. If you drink to moderation and it doesn't affect anyone, what harm are you doing? The British have lived on alcohol for centuries - beer being the main constituent for most diets for years. Apparently we're a "ticking time bomb" that the Govt has to diffuse, along with :- Obesity Cannabis Speeding Hunting Health and safety Money Debt Pregnancy Housing Hospitals And the list goes on......................................... berettaman1
Ok I admit I have been too scared to own up to the amount I drink, I sink a average of 30 cans of Kestrel Super a week, I dont know how bad that is but I can say in all honesty I wish I didnt, I realise it has in many ways , wrecked many of the friendships I have made over the years, when tanked up I have took umbrage at friends comments and often challenged them to fist fights, how stupid was that? I am a old berk now and wish to god I could turn the clock back, but as you all know thats impossible, problem is I am a old bloke now, but still in my 30,s in my head And perhaps that is what started me off on this downhill spiral, In 1992 I took out a snd mortgage on my house to finance work for the Goverment , I wont say what branch but I was told the oppnortunity was there to make a good living, so I went ahead borrowed thousands to get the business off the ground, laid out thousands for equipment, tooling, vehicles , etc, and then was told there was a hold on the start date!! after 6 weeks with not a penny coming in I keeled over with a massive heart attack, My family was told I was not expected to make it through the night, however I did and was in hospital for 21 days, normal time I was told for hospital time being 10 days,However I made it home and was then told by the specialist that I would never work again! which meant I would lose everything I had worked for,I wont bore you all with the rest of my story how in the end I got myself back to work, the sacrifices that was made, how my family put up with my anger as I cursed the gods for doing this to me, and how drinking after work started me on this path, and how friends got me into clayshooting and how I made A class in sporting, DTL, and made AA in double rise after shooting only 12 months Jeeze I could write a book, but it would only bore you all cheers. Apparently we're a "ticking time bomb" that the Govt has to diffuse, along with :- If you look at the amount of people that go to hospital because of alcohol and everybody is always saying that immigrants are taking all the places in our hospitals but a nurse would rather treat a immigrant than a drunken person because there not gonna get abused. And all the drunken behaviour from Neds/Chavs causing criminal damage and going round with knives and guns. Thats what the government is trying to stop because it all leads down to alcohol and drugs. Now I agree that you can have a few more drinks than normal and still be sensible but not everybody sticks to their own limit they go to far and do these wrong things. WOW BM1 (Ron), the first serious post I have seen from you. I am sorry to hear about the troubles with your business and heart, it takes a real man with balls to start a business, I know I have done it twice now. There is no quick fix I can offer you here but I like the deep and meaningful BM1 as opposed to the Dr Jekyll we sometimes experience. Cut down on the Supers mate (surely a contradiction in terms?!) and lets see more of the "wise old owl" stuff !
High Desert Hunter
When I lived in Europe, I drank about 4 or 5 times what I do now. What with drunken laws and the responsibility of providing for a family, had to cut back, now, I may have 2 or 3 pints on a Friday or Saturday night, and on the rare occasion I will enjoy a Famous Grouse, but very rare I ever have any during the week. Stress and anxiety are wrecking my life enough without compounding the problem. Dave
Dunkield
I have to admit I am surprised by the results, I expected a 'bell' shaped graph with most people in the middle ground I hear what you are saying about being told what you should, and shouldn't do Pedro, but I also think moderation in everything will be answer for a long and healthy life. BM1's reply has messages for all of us in it, fair play to him for sharing that with us.
Dirty Harry
I drink zero units a week, month, year or so far this century!
njc110381
I go to the pub once a week to play pool and maybe drink a couple of bells and cokes, depending on who's driving. I don't drink at home or if I have to drive again that day. I really don't see the need to drink loads, if you can't have a good time without getting drugged up or p****d then somethings wrong! Quite often I go to the pub, don't have to drive home, and still don't drink. I don't like pints or many spirits, but a shot of bells in a glass of coke makes it taste better. Sometimes I drink to join in the fun with the lads, but that's only for birthdays etc. I maybe do that a couple of times a year, and then moan at the cost the next morning. I went on a stag weekend a few months back and between drinks and strippers cost myself about £300 in two days I could have bought a rifle for that, although the stripper was almost worth it Back to the subject I don't like tea or coffee much either, so most of the time I drink water! Stealth Stalker
I might have a couple bottles of Badger during a week night, come the weekend depends if I'm out shooting I'll leave off the booze altogether, if I'm at football things can go a bit silly. Where I really come down is the binge drinking, I just don't know when to stop Arsenal V Spurs is always a heavy one, we meet in the cafe at 07.30 & are in the pub at 08.30, the match is a welcome break, then we carry on till the early hours  OUCH Thankfully, since I've really got into my country sports those binges are few & far between. The amount of "lost days" the following day really P****D me off. As for units I wouldn't have a clue.
