My mistake then; it was the stepped rib which had me thinking it was a trap gun.

I looked at the stepped rib and came to the same conclusion. I have only seen skeet models with a flat rib. Asked them to check, which they did. I then Googled to find the same model. I fancy a few rounds of skeet - haven't shot it in about 10years. Hope I shoot better than with the Diamond grade trap. Truly awful with that.

Picked it first thing this morning, which was fortunate as there had been other enquiries. The lass in the shop wasn't 100% sure on background, but said that someone's relative had died and the shooter then decided to pack in shooting. Hence the Cancer charity donation.

Gun itself has oil finished woodwork in a very decent original Winchester case. Action is loose - the bite wants attention. With the lever pushed across manually, it's tight. Case had two sets of snap caps, brushes etc., but no keys.

Photo of the gun alongside my Diamond Grade trap model. For a skeet gun, it has a surprisingly high comb and fits me. I will get it tightened up and get in a few rounds of skeet - years since I shot it.

Having shouldered the gun a fair number of times, I have been astonished as to just how well it fits. Trap guns normally fit me like a glove, but a skeet gun ?

I was chuffed with the gun case and bizarrely jumped to the conclusion it was a Winchester original. Having Googled them- finding only one - priced at £543.75 - I thought Christmas had come early. The logo woven into the canvas was very, very familiar and it was only a few days later that I noticed it was a Beretta logo, not Winchester.

Down to earth with a bump. It's a decent case so I might just keep it for the Winchester.

Well pleased with the skeet gun. Thanks to holloway for the heads up.

Glad someone who appreciates the old Winchesters bought it .

I didn’t like to say so at the time but I had my doubts about the case; it didn’t look anything like the DG case I had, ( mine was covered with the Winchester and DG logo running diagonally across the surface ) but without a closer inspection I couldn’t say for certain, so thought it best not to comment.
Having said that, I’m pretty envious to be honest; I’d looked at DG skeet guns a while back and couldn’t find anything near that price, cased or otherwise. A good buy. 👍

They really are quality items.

Scully - no need to spare my feelings. I am big enough to know when I made a stupid mistake and would have welcomed anyone pointing it out.

Never too old to learn. The case is identical to the expensive Winchester albeit with a different logo. I don't quite comprehend the value in the Winchester case - it had been reduced from over £700. You can get a better quality Negrini case for less than half that.
