What to do when coming from The Netherlands

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice. I've come to your country a number of times for some pigeon shooting. I've booked via Beesley before and via Angia Sporting. Anglia wasn't really bad considering they warn 12 is the average bag for a days pigeon shooting but it isn't really worth the time and money. Travelling is expensive.Does anyone have any better suggestion on where to go? I'm looking for pigeon shooting for two persons for two back to back days. Please advise! We are two experienced, safe guns, both in our mid 50's and we can bring our own kit and hides. Any advice on which periods are best is also welcome.

I would reckon its unreliable at the best of times. On here https://www.gunsonpegs.com/shooting there are some expensive days available but even then it's a fair way to come for something so unreliable.

I travel to Africa each year, in May for pigeons, doves and wildfowl its relatively cheap and very reliable with no jet lag. a week would be the minimun time period but we go for longer to spread the cost of the flights. There is no shortage of birds and I would expect to shoot well over a 100 birds a day and often over 300 birds. We have spare places on our trip if you are interested drop me a pm.

Stalking is more reliable in England and if that is of interest drop me a pm as I am quite happy to take others out on a non commercial basis.

my advice is to become a "valued" member on here....and engage ...post some pics and get to know people on here....its not a quick fix...and maybe people will start to get to know you and trust you...and extend an invite to you........

money ..(at the end of the day ) wont buy you everything.....friendship will

I am not rich or wealthy by any (western) standard and it's not my intention to look as if I think everything is for sale. I do however think it is helpfull to make it worthwile for anyone who could be of help. But to who ever it concerns, I'd be willing to offer my eternal friendship as well 😉

Pigeon shooting can’t be guaranteed by the nature of the fact that they are wild birds. In the area I live recently there have been probably 1000 birds on one field of rape (not being shot at) and the next day nothing.

There are ways of increasing the odds but to me not within the spirit of pigeon shooting.

I’m afraid it’s alway going to be a bit of a lottery.

The time of the year the op was thinking of coming over to the UK would make a huge difference of increasing the chances for getting some reasonable shooting , the height of the Summer would be far better than the bleak mid Winter .

Around the harvest time you have got more options , prior to harvest you might have numbers going on laid stuff , then once the harvest start you have then got stubbles to go on in warm and plesant conditions ,  idealy they pick a spell of dry weather rather than how it have been around these parts these last several days , take today for instance , we have got very little Pigeon activity and it was heavy rain with a cold wind for most of the day , certainly not worth the effort in catching ferries , driving very long distances and not forgetting the price of fuel , at least they can do a bit of sight seeing in the Summer after having a few hours shooting and the hours of light are a long longer , Summer time win hands down .
