John Macnab 20g

Recommended Posts

The clear out continues.

Selling my beloved John Macnab Highlander 20g.

29" barrels,

14 1/2" LOP,

Fixed 1/4 & 1/2 choke,

An absolute gorgeous gun, at home both in the field for the clay ground.

It's not HP steel proofed but Nitro proofed with 1/4 & 1/2 choke so perfectly fine with standard steel.

I'm asking £650 which is a bargain.

Probably the cheapest Highlander you'll see.

Located in Alfreton, Derbyshire

nice metal to wood finish....and not over the top blueing...:good:

They are lovely guns to both own and use. Greatly underrated.

That shouldn`t hang around for long and someone will get an absolute bargain.

The weight will be around 6 lbs to 6 lbs 4 oz and will handle beautifully. Trust me, I`ve owned 5 of them.

All these positive comments are serious making me consider keeping it.

Keep it. If you’re like me, you’ll regret selling it once it’s gone, miss it and then want to buy another one.

So just out of interest from someone that doesnt know much about these

Is it a gun designed by John McNab and produced by Rizzini or a Rizzini gun finished off (customised?) by John Macnab or something else?

I know I can look on the internet but theres probably more knowledgeable people on here!

The MacNab Highlanders were made by Battista Rizzini (the best of the Rizzini clan) and marketed by MacNab Guns, a company started by Patrick Keen. Patrick got Rizzini to make the guns to his specification but they were based upon the current Rizzini Aurum with the exception that they had a solid top rib and the MacNab logo etc. The Highlander was produced in the boxlock (as the one advertised) and also a sideplated boxlock version and also a rarer deluxe model which very rarely is seen for sale, so I assume only a few were produced.

They are not to be confused with the MacNab Lowlanders, also marketed by Patrick Keen but made by Sabatti and generally of a cheaper specification.

Hope that this helps.

John Macnab was a novel by John Buchan about a banker, cabinet minister and a barrister who decided to poach a stag and a salmon on someone`s estate in order to bring a bit of excitement into their lives.

Since then, a MacNab has been known as to catch a salmon, shoot a grouse and stalk a stag all in one day.
