Reading article yesterday about up coming elections in a few EU countries and thethe right wing parties gaining substantial ground on immigration issues wonder how the EU elite will take it if these parties win. Your views please

Italy’s current prime minister is a former fascist and still holds Mussolini in high regard. The far-right have gained a lot of ground in Germany too.

It feels like Western Europe is becoming more polarised with extreme stances becoming more common and more ‘moderate’ politics being pushed out.

There was a programme on R4 this morning where a reporter was interviewing 'potential refugees' who were waiting in north Africa (Tunisia and Libya) trying to get places on boats heading to Italy.  Most 'refugees' were male upper age teenagers.  Several were quite keen to talk to the reporter and two main facts came out;

  1. None would reveal how they got the money/supported themselves - food, phones (which they all had), etc.
  2. All interviewed (and it seems most if not all in that area) had come from the Gambia - which has no conflict or political upheaval from which people would need to 'seek refuge'.  It is just a poor country - and the people were migrating because they were all convinced that they could/would make their fortunes in Europe.

Meanwhile in Europe, the resident population is growing increasingly concerned with the growth in numbers of 'refugees' who aren't really in need of 'refuge' at all, but want to 'get rich and have a western lifestyle (i.e. house, car, live well)' in their 'new chosen country' - with the money coming at the expense of the original 'locals'.

It's a problem that is going to get worse as the African countries have a rapidly growing population and limited wealth/food/facilities to support it - and yet the people - particularly young see (on their phones) what is available 'freely' in other parts of the world.

The parties gaining ground are not exactly "far right", indeed most of them are simply traditionally conservative, whilst as per Elon Musk's meme, the left has indeed become far left, whilst the right has stated put for the main.

Conflating the right with "Facsists" is no different to conflating the Left with Stalin or Mao who both killed far more of their citizens than the extreme right wing ever has.

That sums up the position in one diagram.

Is that directed at me?

If so, what was false in my post?

Anyone who is branded far right is normally just normal sane minded and slightly right.

Europe is in a lot of trouble if things stay like they are or get even worse.

In many cases they are, but Italy’s current prime minister is indeed a literal former fascist.

And Keir Stammer is a literally a former Marxist\Trotskyist, your point?

You won't be voting for Labour\Keir Stammer in the next election due to his "former" extreme views???

It is interesting to note Melloni (amongst others) have done away with the Fascist elements of the old orders of her party as it has changed over time just like Marine Le Pen and, much like Stammer & Co have got rid of the old communists (Corbyn & Co) over here.

No, I vote conservative.

Fascism and Communism should be treated with the same level of contempt.

Indeed; there are a long list of them, such as Diane Abbott, Apsana Begum, Richard Burgon, Dawn Butler, Marsha de Cordova, Rebecca long-Bailey, John McDonnell, Kate Osamor, Bell Ribero-Addy, Lloyd Russell-Moyle, Claudia Webbe and others.
