gmm243
Evening all. Have decided that I need a new pair of stalking binos. The choice is the Hawke Vantage or Vortex Diamondback. Both in 8 x 42. Has anyone any experience of either?
Sussexboy
No experience of the Hawke binoculars but my wife has the Vortex ones. They are pretty good. I have a pair of the original Bushnell Elites, and the Vortex are very comparable with those. I have been impressed with them.
steve_b_wales
I've got a set of Hawke Nature Trek 8x42 which are excellent. Around the same price range as the Vantage I believe, but very good quality. Edited September 8, 2023 by steve_b_wales
London Best
A must to try before you buy to see what suits your eyes. I have never looked through a Hawke product which seemed any good to me. Also, I bought a pair of Zeiss Conquest which were fantastic on the open veldt in Africa but I found them too narrow in the field of view and too fussy to focus for close the range woodland stalking I do in England. Good shot?
Definite to try before you buy. i see a double image in my mates Binoculars and he sees a double image in mine. Both are a perfect image for our own eyes. I don’t know why that should be but I would certainly want to try before purchase of a new pair. Edited September 10, 2023 by Good shot? Old Boggy
I must echo LB & Good shot`s comments that it`s best to try before you buy. I bought a pair of 8x30 Jenoptik Jena binoculars at a game fair over 30 years ago which I was able to try and they served me well but have now been reserved as the `spare` set as the rubber eye thingies rotted (probably my abuse over the years). Since then, I have had a pair of Hawke Vantage which I bought untried after having read all good reviews. I then tried a pair of 10x42 Bushnell H20s which seemed to suit me better than the Hawke ones and I find them really good. I am sure, as has been said, that different makes suit different people so it`s definitely best to try perhaps several different types/makes before buying. gmm243
Thank you for all the replies. I have not too many places locally to try out new binoculars but will try a place in town. I had tried a pair of 10x 50 Bushnells but had to hand them back as the slight hand shake I had was really exaggerated when I tried to look at something especially when it was at a bit of distance. Just to throw another name into the mix a friend of mine uses Steiner. He says they are great and were a similar price to the Vortex.
