Quite right, when stuck in the desert with Rommel chasing you a rotated pin would do the job but, in this case only a long lasting and respectful repair will do. I mentioned the multiple locking arrangement on this gun when I noted that the top lever was well over to the left. Its certainly belt and braces !

A few more pictures of the underside and barrels. Was a monobloc assembly widespread at that time ? Also, I've read a little about the use of Krupps steel for the barrels but its not clear as to wether or not Beretta had the steel made, under license, to Krupps specification or they bought the barrels in partly finished from them. There is very little information out there about pre-war Bereta's. Even the model numbers are very vague.

And side clips too.

I forgot those in all the excitement. It just keeps on giving.

The book is "The World of Beretta" by R.L. Wilson published around 2000.  It is still available - but not cheaply!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Beretta-International-Legend/dp/0375501495/ref=sr_1_1?crid=L2HIU2XVQNZZ&keywords=the+world+of+beretta&qid=1703422778&s=books&sprefix=the+world+of+beretta%2Cstripbooks%2C108&sr=1-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.23648568-4ba5-49f2-9aa6-31ae75f1e9cd

There seem to be cheaper and second hand copies around.  Lots of pics, but quite hard to 'navigate'.

What a remarkable resource, that's a New Year essential. Thank you for that.

I don't really know anything about him, but the book - whilst enjoyable and in many ways excellent (well illustrated, comprehensive and with a wealth of data) is not easy to use as a reference resource.  Unfortunately, very few books on guns are.  I am fortunate to have a reasonable 'library' of shooting books, biased towards shotguns and gunmakers and mostly British, though I do have a few books on the Continental makers whose products I have (Beretta, Darne and Merkel).

Most of the 'serious' gun books are expensive as they are printed in small numbers, and unless they are reprinted, can become hard (and consequently expensive) to obtain.

It is a great book, as are the Donald Dallas ones, I also have a Winchester and Ruger one like the Beretta one and Santa just brought me the Woodward book today!
