We found that out very early in life that if you can kill a Pigeon with a cheap cartridge then why use a dear one , up until a few years ago just about every Pigeon we shot ended up at the game dealers , he wasn't interested weather you shot the Pigeons you were selling was with a dear shell or the cheapest on the market you were going to get the exactly the same price , so with the cost of everything going up to do with Pigeon shooting and the reverse effect in moving them on then it made sense to get used to the so called budget cartridges . We got used to using the Russian cartridges ( no we are not starting another thread ) and although they kicked a bit our guns were fairly heavy and were made mainly for fowling so the kick wasn't really noticeable , we got through 1000s and at one time we were buying them in a wooden crate for £40 a 1000 and roughly at the same time we were selling fresh Pigeons for 40p each , then when the cartridges were getting harder to get we splashed out on Gamebore Clear Pigeon , the 30gm ones were without doubt some of the best , if not the best all round cartridge I have used , this might be because for a number of years I used nothing else , then the price went sky high and I moved back to whatever I could pick up at a sensible price , and those habits are still in force today . I never knew they were part of PW? If you are only likely to shoot once this coming season, then you probably only need one box not one slab. Depending, of course, what sort of game shooting you are likely to be doing you are not likely to be pulling the trigger as if you are on a clay ground. The simple answer is to simply use what you have. They will work just fine. Except on the labels there is no such thing as a ‘clay’ cartridge nor a ‘game’ cartridge. A cartridge is a cartridge, is a cartridge.
CumbrianWildfowler
Shoot pigeons with steel and falconers and falcon breeders will give you a fair price for them, more than the game dealers. Steel kills them just fine. I know as I keep falcons!

I got in touch with the local hawk conservancy, and they have stated they can no longer take any birds as a donation, only what they get through approved butchers. So, literally can't even give them away here! That's not to say a private falconer wouldn't be uninterested.
