As the greens aren't going to get in  political intrigue / coalition politics aside - Labour's manifesto contains (as expected) these gems -

Full cost recovery for firearms licences

Banning the import of hunting trophys

Banning trail hunting

Anyone care to guess how these will work in practice?

I’m currently reading the manifesto. I want to read in full. This is the quote regarding firearms licensing:

“And to offer young people a pathway out of violence, we will place youth workers and mentors in A&E units and Pupil Referral Units, funded by full recovery of the cost of firearm licensing.“

Yes - apparently they want to raise £20 million from firearms licensing for it. Which spread evenly between the last reported number of firearms owners in the UK works out at about £35 per head. Which isn't too onerous - however, it also doesn't take into account any funding of financial shortfalls in the licensing service itself, which they would presumably want to plug.

The phrasing bothers me more than the actual cost. It’s as if they want to paint us as somehow responsible for youth violence.

Yes - I don't suppose dog whistles are anything new in politics though.

Classic labour,  waste money funding a completely ineffective scheme aimed at the wrong people to tackle a serious issue and insinuate blame and bill a party thats nothing to do with the issue.

seriously though firearms and guns aside what the hell is a bloke with a lanyard gona do in A&E?. If theyre in A&E theyre either the victim or theyve had a much more persuasive means of thinking about changing their ways inflicted on them shortly before.

As usual simple socialist class warfare  --  If you have guns or horses you are automatically a toff and need to be heavily taxed or banned.  We all know this is incorrect but there you are, this is the way the blinkered left see it.

Perhaps they could get the criminals, who shoot people, to pay for the counselling in A and E for the people they have put there.

It sounds like the Green party dreamt this up.

Genghis sums it up for me.

Why should firearms licensing be used to fund such an idea, madness, nearly as bad as the green party wanting to ban all personal ownership of firearms.  Why not get more money from other police responsibilities like football matches.

And as said it suggested a link between firearm ownership and youth crime.
