My wife and I were sat on the beach at Menton, Côte d'Azur, when this popped up  My wife wondered if it was a gannet or a cormorant. "What about a ****?", I said and was accused of changing the subject.

Do you shore types know?

 

As always, the editor ruins a good joke. Anyway, had I identified the small bird correctly?

I would go with a Cormorant.  On a cruise last year, I was amazed as to how many Cormorants I saw in every port of call. On a river cruise in France, I saw more Cormorant than Mallard !  🙄

Hello, If you want to see Cormorants there is one place with not just 1 / 2 or 3 but at times 50/ 80 plus and they love the Trout meant for the fishing, Farmoor Reservoir
