Help me out guys. I have narrowed my search down to 2 Land Rovers, each are very different to the other as you can see. Both are superb examples and are the same price.

Both will do what I want them to do, no heavy off road either. 1 will do it in more comfort than the other, but the Millitart Landrover is a blast to drive. Everything works in it as well, I can also hook up a ham radio set to it.

The Defender is in great condition, spotless inside and out for its age. Both I have no doubt will hold their value well.

I will be using them for taking the dogs out (so they dont get my car dirty and for driving across feilds and a few streams. they will not be used for extreme off roading.

Both my wife and boy like the Military one. I like them both, and Harry (Suggs) and I have had advice of off people I trust regarding both vehicles. I just cant make my mind up. One more thing. The lightweight landy has a drop back which would allow me to lay down and shot from inside

What do think.

If my memory serves me right the J reg Def90 is the simple turbo version and not the TDi of the 200 & 300Tdi versions. In which case I would go for the lightweight as the early def 90 turbo's were a pain. If you want a 90, go for either a 300Tdi (the best one - even compared against the TD5) or an earlier straight nat. asp. diesel (around '86 - C Reg). My brother sold his a year or so ago, should be able to pick one up for ~£2K. Even better go for a Trooper!

I havent voted as if I were given the choice of any defender and any lightweight it would be the defender...but of those shown it would be the lightweight.

The 200 TDi was the best engine

Just saying it as I see it really Shaun. I know one 200Tdi that has done 130K with no worries, but the other 3 or 4 have all had engine replacements pre 80K. Out of the 6 or 7 300Tdi's I know none have gone wrong and most have done in excess of 140K.

Yeah I know mate

My 200 is still working after 207K. Think its a personal preference thing, find the 200tdi more torquey and better on fuel. Also check the 300tdi has had the cambelt recall done. Think it also stems from my preference for the LT77.

If its not to be used as a family car when off duty i would say the lightweight. Scratches can easily be touched up and dirty dogs wont be such an issue. Drop the rear cover and shoot over the back, and be on and off it to collect up as you go round more easily than using a sunroof. I the summer over stubble, strip the cover off drop the windscreen forward and shoot solo over the front. It looks good, is in cammo, and is a bit of military history.

Dont like the look of those boxes on the fenders at the front though. Do they come off.

It pains me to say it but i'd go for the 90, though i may vere off and go for the lightweight at the last min

Is the lightwieght 24v? Helped rebuild my mates seriesII radio wagon a good few years back and all was well until we started on the electrics, 24v parts were a nightmare to obtain, even the light lenses were different to the std seriesII  then again he was being anally retentive about originality... But the electrics were a pain

# Racal antenna on both wings and an external radio mast to the offside.

# All the wiring and radio equipment, other than the radio itself, is in place and in working order. The vehicle only requires a functional radio unit to make it a fully equipped forward control unit.

# Full yrs MOT

# 6 months tax

# 2.2lt petrol engine

# New full hood and a half hood included

# New tyres

# Tow bracket with both Sankey and 50mm ball hitch.

# 24-volt electrics and many extras.
