Yes, much. 4 minutes ago, Raja Clavata said: Who said anything about government. Well, you did when you called for 'spreading misinformation' to be made a crime! This would, as stated, require some sort of arbiter of what constitutes the truth. If you were to put that in the hands of the courts, a legal quagmire awaits you. Or at least it does if you care about due process, and not depriving innocent people of their liberty. If you were to set up some sort of quasi independent body to avoid the need for the courts to decide, well... As @Stonepark said, be very careful what you wish for. Incidentally, the last senior political figure to suggest the government should be the only source of information people believe, was openly laughed at at the time, and subsequently fell on her sword before her inevitable kicking out of office by the NZ electorate. Queue much fawning from one side of the media suggesting she was truly the grown up amongst the grown ups in the room, and much derision from the other side, wondering how it took this long to get rid of someone so obviously dangerous to personal liberty. Perspectives, innit?

Perspectives, innit? Perspectives 👍 So much to discuss around this but perhaps before the solutions are debated it would be better to align on a problem statement and desired outcomes. They could call it, I don't know, "The ministry of Truth" or something. 😁

If you look back I stated there should be consequences, didn’t mean to imply criminal ones. The ignorance as no mitigation for a criminal act was a standalone generalisation. I did also later on refer to responsible platforms.
