Robden
Extend stamp duty tax exemption for Muslims, to other faiths.
12gauge82
Sounds like utter nonsense to me. The tax man will get his money one way or another even if the 'stamp duty' isn't called stamp duty.

In a Muslim country, fair enough. But in our country?!? We are not a Muslim country......yet.
Pushandpull
Google "stamp duty exemption muslims" for an explanation from the official government website.
Yellow Bear
It is discrimination pure and simple on the grounds of religion.
udderlyoffroad
Eh? Had a 5 second google earlier; the exemption is to avoid being charged stamp duty twice for the same house. What would be discrimination is if Sharia compliant mortgages were only available to practicing Muslims. The banks still get their money, it’s just there are hoops to jump through to make it compliant. If it was genuinely cheaper to have a Sharia Mortgage, you can bet the clamour for those would be massive.
ph5172
A lad I worked with did explain them to me but I can’t recall the ins and outs. I do recall him saying the whole family put in X amount a month from the time they were working. This was a ‘pot’ for a deposit an a property for the next married and then that monthly contribution would go to paying off the mortgage super quick. this would then repeat for the entire time you were working. this was the reason large communities popped up in areas classically seen as cheap. based on that I doubt there would be much interest as we know it anyway
