yickdaz
Was out sat looking at the barley stubble In an area there has been constant lines and birds there for a month, nothing well not enough to set up on headed to a rape stubble 10 miles away immediately hundreds on the field and birds flighting in it was 3pm so just went for it wind wasn't right for it in our face but a lane and houses dictated where we set up managed 30 in a few hrs but planned to come back next day got to the field at 12.30pm steady line coming in set up for 1.30pm shot 80 picked 75 the last 90 minutes was the best between 5pm and 6.30pm Edited August 5 by yickdaz

marsh man
Excellent couple of bags , rape stubble seem to be top of the list at the moment but that will depend what else is on offer in your area , with it being so dry of late it isn't Greening up at the moment and things could change now they are starting combining on the Spring planted grain fields . Wilts#Dave
Nice work 😎! Found the same ref decoying, harder to get them to commit at the moment even when there’s plenty there…..again as you say later on in the afternoon when they’re keen to get in for a feed they suddenly switch on and commit to the decoys! I agree with you both about the late afternoon/early evening feed. However I believe it to be the result of keeping pigeons off the field in the previous few hours by shooting from say 2pm. If they’re intent on feeding where you’ve setup (which is the plan), then as you say after being put off for a few hours and being wary they throw caution to the wind and come on in for those last couple of hours in hope of feeding. Not so much this year as I’ve not shot much past 6 o clock anywhere but in years gone by I’ve shot the majority of a bag from 4.30-6.30/7 o clock with them still coming in when packing up. Would you say if the weather make a difference in what time of the day is most productive , I have found the hotter the weather the later they tend to feed , this theory is thrown out in BB case as he get heavy shooting from the time he is there to the time he finish , maybe he find certain times of the day when it is at it's best , but then again he is in a very high Pigeon populated area, so a slow up for Ben would be very good shooting for the likes of myself , Also now the amount of daylight is shrinking every day , will the best feeding times soon merge into one , I have just looked it up and in August alone we lose 1hour 11 minutes of daylight , a fair ole bit when you consider the longest day was way back in the third week of June . yickdaz
I know you quoted wiltsdave but I'll answer I've had days in summer where they have switched off at 5pm well stopped coming to the decoys but birds still flighting in the area, few weeks ago between 5pm 6pm shot 30 on top of the 80 from the afternoon last sun was the same another 30 something in last 90 mins could of stayed later but by time you pack up collect over 100 birds get home lay them out few hrs to cool in the meantime have tea shower etc put birds in freezers its 10pm
