Dave-G
Someone has asked if I'll sign the V5 in their name for a Pinin I have for sale. My instinct is its dodgy and no go - but can anyone put me right on it please in case it just somehow eases its transfer? I'm in Leicester. enfieldspares
If it doesn't feel right it probably isn't right. And if it ends up with parking tickets, congestion charges, unpaid tolls eventually coming back to you? And you say that it was you yourself that signed the V5 as "being the buyer"? I'd feel somewhat uncomfortable... Edited October 7 by enfieldspares
scarecrow243
don't do it you can end up getting done as you are the seller not the buyer sounds very dodgy as you said
TIGHTCHOKE
Go on, do it and then you can tell us just how wrong it was after it already feels so wrong. Good luck with whatever you choose to do................................
ph5172
I also assume the money will come via western union and they will send a friend to pick it up (who could also pay cash and sign the form as the buyer) i know people in Ireland that will buy cars in the uk as they are a lot cheaper. they usually have the car inspected by AA or the like then if it’s got legs will fly over. I would be blocking any contact with the ‘buyer’
Bruno24
A couple of years ago I sold a volvo that had died, it had been sat on my drive for a few weeks and as often happens a guy comes and asks to buy it for parts/scrap offered a decent price so sold it, he filled in the v5 and took the car, after he had gone I looked at the v5 and he hadn't signed it also the address looked dodgy so looked on google and couldn't find it, so a bit worried got in touch with DVLA and was told the v5 dosn't need to be signed anymore but I can't remember the reason, sent the v5 off to DVLA. Anyway a few days later I got a letter from DVLA saying I was no longer the keeper and no longer responsible for the car. TIGHTCHOKE
Yes, I have previously filled in and "signed" V5s on behalf of the "NEW Owner" who has been reluctant. Years ago I part exchanged an old Citroen with 218000 miles on it. All paperwork done by me, but the garage presumably didn't bother but gave me a receipt. When I got a speeding ticket for the vehicle months later, I sent a photograph of the receipt for the old vehicle and that stopped all the problems, for me at least. Dave-G
Well that's confirmed my suspicions thanks all. I've not heard back from him after saying I'd look into the legality of of it.
