flippermaj
Started of at Spot A this morning hoping for a goose or some duck on the tide edge. Naff all there so back at the car by 0900 and of to the cafe for a bacon roll, cafe shut until further notice says the sign on arrival. Dam, now have to drive 15 miles to another cafe but it will allow me to go past a good vantage point on another firth. Stop at said vantage point and surprised to still see a good few 1000 pinks on the mud. I don't hold out much hope as apparently yesterday they all went the "wrong way". So off to the second cafe I continue. Order a bacon roll that seems to take for ever to arrive and drive back to the vantage point only to see geese lifting off in the strong wind and heading over the seawall where I can shoot, the opposite of yesterday! So instant decision, 3 minute drive to the car park, kit on and running done the track trying to stuff a bacon roll down as I go, can see and hear another massive lot lift off. Finally in position at 1000 and it goes quite. Good few thousand still out there but a long way off on the mud as the tide drops. Sit it out for another 30 mins and start to make plans to walk back, gun in slip and so on. Get about 20 yards along the seawall and some start lifting and so it begins! They pour over for an hour in groups of 30 or so, some high in to the wind but wait your time and eventually some lower ones come by. Net result was stopped at 4 pinks and still they came! Fantastic sight and sound. The new to me FEG from Holts Auctions has had a small issue with an occasional light strike on the second barrel but it's been for some adjustment at the smiths and worked well today, only 2 3/4 inch chambers but shot some good uns with 32 grm no 3 Kent Tungsten Impact Matrix. Will not forget that morning for a while!

flippermaj
I would be tempted if I had a 3 inch chambered gun. I can however load tss cheaper than that!

Will not forget that morning for a while! That could well be your flight of the season , a superb flight , they often come when you least expect them and something you cannot predict . At one time our club limit was six , I shot five one night and could had easily doubled it , I shot four and that was enough for me and then on the way back in the dark I was tempted to shoot one more , I shot that and my big Black Lab at the time carried it all the way back to my motor , that was a while ago and the days of me shooting another five are long gone , the last one I shot was enough and I never fired the second shot as I only wanted one , I don't start going now till November and only shoot now what I want as all my friends who wanted the odd duck or goose are sadly all below ground level so my last goose might be exactly that , my last goose. GOOD LUCK for the rest of the season . MM
