tiojonboy Posted yesterday at 14:38 Report Share Posted yesterday at 14:38 I'm just coming to the final stages of a restoration job of an old rusty basket case i found in a street flea market. No stock at all, but nice forend walnut grip. no maker's name, no serial number, .410 hammer, single action , ejector,...nothing moved at first, locked solid. but after a bath of acetone and ATF finally got it to bits..... fast forward to testing . 2 inch cartridge, Here We Go! its clamped in a workmate, tied to a tree, with a couple of metres of string to the trigger. nada, nothing.. the firing pin is hitting not absolutely dead centre, and not with much force maybe. The copper button of the primer is 4mm diameter and the firing pin dent is off -centre about 1.5 mm and is about 1mm diameter, therfore sits just on the edge of the button, almost at the edge of the cap but still inside the circle. looks a bit like a spent 22 lr rimfire case. I strenthened the strike force of the hammer by preloading the spring, but it still hits offcentre. Is that the issue? Whaddya think? tiojonboy Posted yesterday at 18:31 Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 18:31 Also, the ejector works fine with no cartridge, but when I put in a cartridge, used or charged and close and open the breech the ejector claw pulls the cartridge out about 3 or 4 mm but doesn't 'eject' it . I still have to persuade it out with finger and thumb or suitable jemmy, small screw driver or whatever. not difficult , not jammed in there, just not flying out like my 12 bore. Again, a spring strength Issue?
TIGHTCHOKE Posted yesterday at 18:42 Report Share Posted yesterday at 18:42 Perhaps your "ejector" is an extractor.
Scully Posted yesterday at 18:50 Report Share Posted yesterday at 18:50 Is it worth pursuing? Which country are you in? Flea markets aren’t the usual place to find even seized .410 shotguns. 8 minutes ago, TIGHTCHOKE said: Perhaps your "ejector" is an extractor. JKD Posted yesterday at 18:52 Report Share Posted yesterday at 18:52 Only 2 metres of string ? Should be using 3 metres of 10mm rope surely !?

Down South
You’ve just found out why the 410 was a basket case in a flea market. Good luck and keep trying. Be safe and keep smiling. 👍
tiojonboy
hey tightchoke just read the replies again and your remark seems possible extractor v ejector. didn't know there was a difference. makes sense. an yes, down south, well said, but ten beer tokens and another ten on acetone, wax, hours making a new stock from a block of probably iroko or sapele ... if it does finally work then i'm in pocket and watch out you irritating collar doves , im coming ( no wood pigeons here ) four and twenty pink birds baked in a pie. I trust that you`re not in the UK as collared doves are protected here. OB
