steve_b_wales Posted Sunday at 16:56 Report Share Posted Sunday at 16:56 I have a mains electric security light fitted to the outside wall of my kitchen. I would like to fit another one on the wood fence near the top of my garden, and would like to join the cable to the existing cable that runs through the wall of my kitchen. What type of connector box would I require?
ph5172 Posted Sunday at 17:08 Report Share Posted Sunday at 17:08 Waterproof junction box would do the trick amazon do them
hedge Posted Sunday at 18:14 Report Share Posted Sunday at 18:14 My sparkie swears by WISKA junction boxes. About £10. There are other cheaper brands that claim to do the same thing. WAGO connecters seem to have replaced choc blocks.
udderlyoffroad Posted Sunday at 18:25 Report Share Posted Sunday at 18:25 Another vote for Wiska & Wago combo. EBay or local electrical wholesaler. Do not fit cheap stuff outside, you’ll regret it. Also don’t run twin and earth outside.
Rupert Posted Sunday at 19:04 Report Share Posted Sunday at 19:04 There is a gel you can fill the Wiska box with to protect the connections

The cable will be attached to the back of Feather edge boards. Edited Sunday at 20:21 by steve_b_wales
udderlyoffroad Posted Sunday at 23:15 Report Share Posted Sunday at 23:15 Steel wire armoured is the official answer. It's actually not that expensive but requires you to terminate each end in a gland. This is not difficult and I taught myself to do it from youtube videos. Practice first on the bench holding the gland in a vice using offcuts of cable. SWA is typical British overkill and the rest of the world uses exterior rated cable/flex, such as HOR7NF. But you may find SWA just easier to get hold of in the small quantity you presumably require. I wouldn't be attaching anything to the feather edge boards themselves, but the uprights & rails

I would recommend cable entry and exit through the bottom of the Wiska box.
