Suffolk shooter
I have a Browning gold hunter 3.5" Magnum chamber and the only thing I would change is the barrel length from 30" to 28" otherwise fantastic gun, never had a problem with it Buy the best money you can afford to spend and make sure you like it in swinging and fitting terms. End of the day all guns are the same, you pull the trigger and it goes bang, whether it hits the intended quarry/terget is up to you SS
Everhopefull
I've been fancying a Benelli M2 confortec s/auto for some time, does anyone have any experience of the amount of recoil on a Benelli with it's inertia recoil system compared to a gas type recoil, as on a beretta etc? I may be puting mine up for sale soon.
starlight32
Browning Pheonix or Winchester X3 both in camo. Or failing that Benelli super black II. Forget about the escorts if you are going to own only one auto- They are an ideal rough cheapie gun but lack the finesse of all the other makes. I admit I do own one but would not own one over my Browning or winchester
ziplex
Another vote for Franchi Raptor..........used mine on numerous occasions on the foreshore, great pigeon gun and genuinely has never failed to cycle anything from 28grm, (never tried anything less). Very easy to clean and it has been covered in mud more than once, the weathercoat thingamagiggy coating is a godsend in that respect.....wood never gets waterlogged. Like most will advise go try and see what fits and remember barrel length, 28" equates to approx 30" overall when compared to an over/under. Jaminzx7r
Beretta 391, 304 or 303 or Franchi Raptor. I was looking earlier in the year, didn't want to spent more than £350ish. 391 and franchi was a little out of price range so went with a Beretta 303 Its 28" m/c barrel, paid £150 for it earlier this year, needed some cosmectic tlc but for sitting in a ditch and throwing in the back of the truck I dont want a pretty gun. In fact, I've gone a covered it in camo tape anyway. Its had loads of use for pigeons and rats, has cycled everything I've put through it so far and never missed a beat, which is more that can be said for my mates hatsan. Hatsan's are fine, as long as you don't get one that was screwed together in the afternoon everyone in the factory went down the pub for lunch. From what I've read about them, some are no trouble, others are nothing but trouble. However, I think they come with a good warranty. njc110381
If funds allow Beretta 391, 26inch barrel like mine I'll second (or would that be fifth ) that! I have a 391 Xtrema 3.5 and it's a lovely gun. It cycles some of the lightest loads available and very rarely gives any trouble. I'd say it was a bit heavy to be perfect, so a standard 3" magnum chambered Urika or Technys would be my choice. The barrel on mine is 28", whch makes the gun a little long because of the action length on the 3.5. a 26" model would be perfect, but 28 is ok. I'd avoid anything longer (although that's only personal choice as I like shortish guns).

Jaminzx7r
Gun tape probably has little effect due to the fact my shooting partner can't sit still for 5 minutes and insists on yelling at me in the hide cos he's got his ear plugs in Trick really is to sit still and pop up last second, but Woodies have keen eyesight and anything to help mask your outline and straight edges like gun barrels helps I think. Especially as the pigeons on the permission I have seem to be quite cautious.

Depends on what you intend to use it for, it is not really important if most of your shooting is in a hide. However if like me you enjoy sneaking round the woods then it makes a big difference when trying to sneak up on pigeons and squirrels or corvids in the tree canopies. Got my beretta with a bonus from work and came from the factory in realtree finish.... Does it work? Oh Yes!!!! If funds allow do it.
