new to the flock
We are all for the most part doing well. We have our families, jobs, sport and yes the PW community. There are many people in our communities where we live that are not as lucky as we are however. I am sure we all know of at least one family that is on hard times, or an elderly couple on pension barely if making ends meet. Over here we have a program called Hunters Feeding The Hungry. Basically you can donate your shot venison to the program, it is processed and inspected federally, and then distributed to the hungry and needy. On top of this program there are a number of us that do one step more. We each prepare a hamper, it maybe a brace of pheasants a couple of connies, a duck or some venison cuts, a smoked trout or a combination of all. All the game is oven ready, add a few spuds around the bottom, a turnip, and a nice loaf of bread and it is ready. We then each pick out a family we feel is in need of a little help and a nice meal or two. (If you dont know one the people at your local food bank can suggest someone) The hampers are donated a couple of days before Christmas. I f no one is home they are left with a little note saying Merry Christmas Hope You Enjoy. So here is my challange. I would like to see everyone on PW supply an elderly couple, or family in need with such a hamper. Lets show the people that we are not heartless killers but passionate providers, and maybe make someones Christmas a little brighter. Oly
Can anyone advise on the rules and regs regarding distributing game to the public - can't remember them, but that's why I keep all mine - sorry NTTF, UK laws may get in the way! Good idea though
new to the flock
We all give game away to family and friends, and the elderly couple down the road, without worrying, so why not do it once this month? NTTF

henry d
I believe that "all bets are off" if you are supplying small amounts to friends and family, ie. you may supply it with no regulations, however when I get a moment I will ask BASC. David BASC
Sorry, had a mad moment with the PC! In the UK under the FSA rules you can give away primary product - birds in the feather, gutted rabbit / deer. There is anFSA fact sheet (pdf format) on the BASC web site. Go to the home page, type FSA into the search box and you will find loads of info about the FSA regs there. David

Piebob
There is anFSA fact sheet (pdf format) on the BASC web site. Go to the home page, type FSA into the search box and you will find loads of info about the FSA regs there. Do you mean there's a BASC leaflet with their take on the FSA regs - designed to encourage us to believe we need to spend £120 on the BASC course? An FSA scenario is below (copied direct from the FSA web-site).... SITUATION A Q: “I shoot game for my own consumption but very occasionally supply some to other people. If I mention in the village pub that I have had an unexpectedly good shooting day, I might be offered payment for surplus game by some of the customers. Under the regulations am I allowed to do this?†A: The EU food hygiene regulations do not apply to you because: • you are shooting for your own private domestic consumption; • the situation you describe of very occasionally supplying others for private domestic consumption does not automatically mean that you are running a food business, even if you are sometimes offered payment. I'll let the others make up their own mind but I think I know what BASC's response will be to HD if he gets a chance to speak to them. Anyway, I'm in. Incidently, I spoke to a gun last year who was in a driven pheasant syndicate that had decided to pay an extra premium on each bird on shoots around Christmas. The extra money was used to have the birds sent to a local butcher for dressing (£1/£1.50 per bird). The syndicate got the birds back then distributed them to care homes, elderly folks, nursing homes, etc around their neck of the woods. I thought it was a superb idea and great PR. Cranfield
DavidBASC spelt it out plainly, there is no restriction on you giving away shot game, deer, rabbits etc. Even if there was restrictions, who the heck is going to know ,or be bothered about it. We make up a "home produced" hamper once a month, which goes to the Church for distribution within a mile of the Church. I put prepared rabbit and birds in there. There are also a couple of old people I regularly supply locally throughout the year, but always a brace of pheasants at least at Christmas.
