Cranfield
The start up costs in pigeon decoying depend completely on what you think you need. I would suggest a cammo net, some hide poles, a seat and some decoys for a start. If you use the "Search" facility, there are quite a few start-up threads on here that are full of suggestions. Also, have a look in the "Craft and DIY" section, there are some good ideas in there.

njc110381
It depends on your ground really. I go out with half a dozen shell decoys (£20?) and a face mask (£5) sometimes and hide in the hedge. You can sit on anything that feels comfortable. If you can get hold of a 25l oil drum and cut the top off you can carry all your shot birds and kit in that if you put a thick rope handle on it. Also, turned upside down it makes a good seat if the ground is reasonably flat
new to the flock
Jamie, It is always hard getting gear together when young, however what I did and many others to start out was make most of it. For decoys if you can get hold of some old realestate signs...the plastic I beam ones you can cut out 3D silloettes (sp) I think there may even be a patern on here some where, I will have a look around for you, if not I will post one if you would like it......Hit them with some grey primer and add the white neck bars and you are set. They work amazingly well. For a hide you can as stated tuck up into a hedge or find some camo netting, or if you have access to them set up a hay/straw bale blind...not portable but will last a long time, and offer good shooting if you put it in the right spot. Add a plastic 5 gallon pail turned upsie down and you have something to carry your decoys in and a hide seat. add 2 and you can carry your shot pigeons aswell. Again as has been said there are threads in the do it yourself section on making bouncers etc. You can set yourself up with good shooting for very little if you take a couple of evenings and put some things together yourself.
